rThe Reds went closer than anyone to ending the Londoners unbeaten start to the season at Anfield on Wednesday and according to Gerrard the goalless draw has given everyone at the club the belief they can do so at the second attempt this weekend.
The skipper admits to enduring a sleepless night as he replayed the Champions League clash over and over in his head. He's adamant Liverpool deserved to win and is raring for another chance to knock the reigning Premiership champions off their pedestal.
"Everyone is saying that they (Chelsea) are invincible and unbeatable, and that no-one was going to take any points off them but we have proved to ourselves that the gap is not that big," Gerrard told Liverpoolfc.tv in an exclusive interview ahead of the big game.
"I think the first half was pretty even and that we cancelled each other out a bit but we made all the running in the second half. Overall I'd say we controlled the game and were the team that looked like they wanted to win it more.
Gerrard on Sunday's match
"The result on Wednesday gives us is a massive belief that we can match them again and take the game to them. It also instils a confidence in us that we can claim all three points. We know we can get at Chelsea and that we can beat them."
"Because Chelsea are so strong you need a bit of luck to go in your favour to get maximum points against them but unfortunately we had two clear-cut penalty appeals that weren't given. Obviouslythe referee didn't have a clear view of either incident, otherwise he'd have definitely given them. I didn't see them myself at the time but after watching them on television afterwards I'm in no doubt that both were legitimateclaims.

Having won seven straight Premiership games and conceded just one goal Chelsea are again riding high at the top of the table. Gerrard is well aware of just how high the stakes will be on Sunday but does not go along with the theory that it is a 'do or die' fixture, like certain people are making out.
"I know what Jose Mourinho has been saying about this being a 'must win' game for us and that we'll be out of the title race if we don't. A defeat would certainly make life more difficult for us but it's too early in the season for that kind of talk," he adds.
"It is a hugely important game, that's for sure, but everytime we play at home is a 'must win' for Liverpool. Three points are a necessity for us whoever we are playing and we'll be approaching it like we do any other."
The weekend clash will be the sixth time Liverpool and Chelsea have met this year. Our record so far is won one, drew two and lost two, so what must the Reds do differently from Wednesday (apart from the obvious) if they are to redress the balance?
Gerrard concludes: "Defensively, I'd say pretty much the same. Chelsea never looked like scoring on Wednesday, apart from a Robben half-chance, so if we can remain solid at the back and keep another clean sheet that would be a start.
"Then I think we could do with being a little more adventurous in certain areas and push on that little bit more, while a bit of luck also wouldn't go amiss. If decisions had gone our way on Wednesday we'd have won so there'sno reason to believe we can't win on Sunday."[/align]
