Valencia are one of three sides vying for the services of Portugal striker Nuno Gomes.
The hit-man, just as in 2000, has put himself in the shop window after some impressive performances at Euro 2004.
The Benfica star scored the goal which sent Spain crashing out of the tournament in Portugal's 1-0 win over their neighbours, and his contribution has caught the eye of Liga sides.
According to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, both Valencia and Real Betis are reported to be interested in the striker - 27 on Monday - as well as Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund.
Che boss Claudio Ranieri is looking to further strengthen his squad ahead of the club's return to the UEFA Champions League next season after already bringing Italian duo Stefano Fiore and Bernardo Corradi to the Mestalla.
Meanwhile, French goalkeeper Ludovic Butelle has been officially unveiled by Valencia following his arrival in Spain last weekend.
The custodian has signed a five-year deal after joining from Metz and expressed his excitement at the opportunity to play for the Spanish champions.
"I am delighted. The first season will be about adapting, but soon I hope to be challenging as first choice," stated the 21-year-old
