There's Something Behind Refereeing Mistakes - Totti

Roma captain Francesco Totti has spoken out on the recent high-profile refereeing decisions, focusing particularly on those which have been favouring league leaders Inter.

Inter are continuing their relentless march towards yet another Serie A title and continue to frustrate second place Roma's attempts to get closer to them. However, their success has recently been somewhat tainted by a series of controversial refereeing decisions that have gone their way at crucial stages in closely fought fixtures.

Roma captain Francesco Totti gave his take on this situation, giving Inter credit where credit is due, but also insisting the Nerazzurri have been strongly favored by the referees lately.

"The way I see it, there is a psychological factor because right now," said the number 10. "Everyone is afraid to make a mistake against Inter and referees get nervous."

"I don't want to attack Inter," he pointed out. "Inter as a club have nothing to do with it I think, the players are good and they win on the pitch. But I still think there is something behind it. They get these small helping hands.

"Unfortunately, that has always happened, like with Juve a while ago, now with Inter. I don't think Inter are doing what Juve used to do though. When the scandal broke and we read the phone conversations, we realised what had been going on.

"I don't think Inter have done the same, they win on the pitch, then the referees can make mistakes because it's hard not to make any errors for the full 90 minutes. But when the mistakes always favor the same team, you start to think."

The Roma captain concluded on a bitter note: "It's disappointing because you train the whole week and you know that they, either because they are strong or because something happens, always win."
