The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is to temporarily lift the ban imposed by FIFA on AS Roma to register new players

Lausanne, 8 August 2005 – The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has today granted the 2nd request for a stay filed by AS Roma, further to the decision made by FIFA on 23 June 2005 to ban the Italian club from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, during the current transfer period and the next one. The sanction is therefore temporarily lifted until the conclusion of the CAS proceedings in this matter.

AS Roma filed an appeal against the FIFA decision on 4 July 2005 and requested that the sanction be stayed until the final CAS decision in this matter. This first request being dismissed by the CAS, AS Roma then filed a second request for a stay on 29 July 2005, accompanied by s which had not been produced at the time of the first request. It is on the basis of these new elements, previously unknown to the tribunal, that the CAS has decided to grant the stay.

This interim decision does not prejudice the decision which will be rendered by the CAS at the end of the arbitration procedure.
