Nawaf Al Abed, a 21-year-old striker for Saudi Arabian soccer club Al Hilal, on Saturday scored what is believed to be the fastest goal in the history of professional soccer when he hit the back of the net an incredible two seconds after the opening whistle in a Prince Faisal bin Fahad Cup match between his team and Al Shoalah.

Al Abed took the opening kickoff and, noticing that the Al Shoalah goalkeeper had come well off his line, tried an improbable shot from near the halfway line. The ball soared and dipped and came to rest in the net. Al Abed did a little dance before being mobbed by teammates.

Al Abed wears No. 24. Oddly enough, so does the hapless but unidentified goalkeeper, who looks a bit sheepish about it all.
