Real Waiting To Complete Carlos Sale To Chelsea

05/25/2004. Real Madrid are on the verge of selling Roberto Carlos to Chelsea for £20m, according to the director of football Jorge Valdano.

The 31-year-old Brazilian defender has been linked with joining the Stamford Bridge revolution frequently over the past year.

However, he has expressed a desire to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu, but is yet to be offered a new long-term contract that he has requested.

"We're waiting for a fax from Chelsea confirming they will pay the £20m fee in order to complete the deal," Valdano told Spanish daily sports paper AS.

Real Madrid are expected to have a major shake-up following their humiliating end of the season, which resulted in Carlos Queiroz being sacked yesteday.
