SAMI GOES HOME
Sami Al Jaber has been given compassionate leave to return home to Saudi Arabia where his 83 year old father is seriously ill.
The Saudi international, who is on a five month loan at Molineux from Al Hilal, with a view to a permanent move, will travel home either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. He will not feature in tomorrow's game at Sheffield Wednesday.
Chief executive Jez Moxey says: "We were very sorry to hear Sami's sad news about his father, and have agreed that he should return home over the holiday period."
Jez has has also responded to suggestions Sami has been unfairly treated by Wolves because he has had few outings for the first team.
The 28 year old captain of the Saudi national team came to Molineux on loan in September, with a view to a £1.25 million permanent signing. The move made Sami - who was recently listed joint 33rd in FIFA¹s World rankings - the first Saudi Arabian player at this level to join a foreign club.
However, after spending a month away from Wolverhampton competing in the Asian Cup, and then returning to Molineux injured, the striker's first team outings have been limited. He has not started a League game (he made one start in the Worthington Cup) and has only made four appearances as a substitute. He has not scored any goals.
Jez, who helped negotiate the deal with Sami's home town club Al Hilal says: "We worked very hard alongside representatives of Al Hilal on making this move to England happen. We appreciated all their efforts - especially those of Prince Khalid.
"We can understand the disappointment that Sami hasn't played more games for the first team. However, the team manager lost the player for four weeks so that he could represent his country in the Asian Cup. Then, when Sami returned, he needed to spend two weeks recovering from a groin injury before being passed fit for selection.
"Many Wolves fans would like to see Sami start a League game, but that decision has to rest with the manager. The executive management at Wolves can not influence the selection of players.
"Colin Lee's contract as manager was terminated this week and his deputy John Ward has been put in temporary charge. It will now be down to John to decide whether Sami should play.
"We know that Sami will not be entirely happy with his time at Wolves because every player wants to be in the first team. However, everyone at the club has worked hard to make Sami feel welcome and help him settle down in a new country. He is well liked by his team mates and all the staff at Wolves, and we hope that he looks upon us as friends.
"We have the greatest respect for Al Hilal and the Saudi football authorities and hope that we can continue to enjoy good relations."
