Cisse and Moro: Time to take out the Trash!
Added by Gerry on 21 May
What a fickle lot we football supporters can sometimes be. I was struck by this thought when on a recent poll on another Liverpool site I’m involved with, I asked the question, “Should Cisse be given another season?” Had I asked this question at the start of the year, I’ve no doubt the overwhelming response would have been NO, but the fact that he scored a few goals towards the end of the season and most recently in the FA Cup final seems to have swayed some peoples opinions.
The result of the recent poll came out with an amazing 55% voting yes, 25% voting it depends on who we replace him with and only 20% voting no. Well I’m not so easily swayed from my opinions and I remain firmly with the 20% who voted no and think he should be dumped at the earliest opportunity.
I admire the way Cisse fought back from a horrendous career threatening leg break and think he deserves great credit for that but other then that I think that at £14 million+ we payed way over the odds for him and he is not good enough to play for this club. Off the field I think his general appearance gives us a big clue to his attitude. The ever changing ridiculous hair-styles, the tattoo’s and the flashy clothes etc, all speak of a guy with a singular attitude who is more interested in standing out as an individual then being part of a team and this is reflected in his performances on the pitch.
Goals can hide a lot but I’ve always been of the opinion that Cisse lacks the attitude and intelligence to be a great player and a few late season goals hasn’t been enough to change my mind. There are literally dozens and dozens of examples of Cisse showing the lack of the right type of attitude in a Red shirt. Looking back over a match report I did in the aftermath of our 1-0 league defeat by the mancs at the theatre of prawns, I picked out 2 such incidents.
The first was during one of our attacks when Kewell played a ball a little too far ahead of him. Although the pass was played a little too firmly by Harry it was still winnable but instead of making any attempt to get to the ball, Cisse preferred instead to simply stand there and throw a daggered look towards Kewell for daring to give him a less then perfect pass.
The second incident involved a poor back pass from a manc defender to the keeper which was begging to be chased down but Cisse as the nearest Reds player simply stood there watching. Eventually Crouch realised the possible opportunity and made a run from further away to put the keeper under pressure and won us a throw in and all the while Cisse just stood there. These are just two incidents from a season filled with many such similar examples of this players piss poor attitude.
The two main reasons why I think some supporters may be willing to give him another season are his pace and the fact that he finished the season with 19 goals but when these two reasons are closely examined, they don’t prove to be very convincing. Regarding his pace, there is no doubt he is blessed with lightening pace but unfortunately he wasn’t blessed with the intelligence to go with it. It seems that in every game he plays in, he is constantly getting caught offside.
He has enough pace to give almost any defender a yard start but he constantly makes his run’s too early and ends potentially dangerous attacks by getting caught offside. And on the few occasions when he does time his run properly and gets through on goal, how many times does he actually beat the keeper? I’m sure there may have been one or two occasions but I’m struggling to remember any. Pace can be a very dangerous asset for an attacker to possess but if he hasn’t got the brain to use it properly, then its practically useless.
Regarding his 19 goals, on the surface this seems to be a decent enough total. However, its not quite so impressive when you examine how this total was reached. Of his 19 goals, just 9 have come in the league and 2 in the FA Cup. Of the other 8, many of these were scored in our early pre-qualifying CL games against such mighty sides as Welsh Champions PMS. So I think we should expect more of a return from a £14 million striker.
Whether you agree with my opinions or not, surely his recent interview (Au Revoir Cisse?)click here. where he expresses his desire to go and fulfil his dream of playing for “Marseille”, must be enough to convince anyone that we would be better off dumping this chump.
On the subject of chumps this brings me to another of our strikers and another one who has been whinging to the press this week (Morientes faces Anfield Axe)click here.. I am of course referring to the striker who in a previous lifetime was known as Fernando Morientes, these days I’m not sure what he’s known as but I prefer to simply call him shit. Shit has said in a recent interview that he could have scored more goals if he had been given more opportunities. Its ing these days when so many players and managers alike complain of too many games in a season, to have a player who’s actually in favour of playing more. We must assume that’s exactly what shit is calling for because given his current pitiful ration of just 12 goals from 61 appearances, we would have to play at least 125 games in a season for this guy to score 25, perhaps he should consider taking up baseball!
If we are to seriously challenge in the Premiership next season then we must see a dramatic improvement in our attack. Crouch gives us a good physical presence in attack, is very hard working and he holds the ball up well but although he will chip in with a fair share of goals, I can never see him being prolific. I’m absolutely delighted Fowler will be with us for at least another season and he will certainly score but his fitness will always be a concern.
Other then those two, we’ve got to dump these other two chumps and replace them with a pair of real top class strikers. They won’t come cheap but if Cisse has a reasonable World Cup we might expect to get £8-£10 million from his sale which will certainly help as will the £7.36 plus a Kingsize Mars bar and the packet of Monster Munch we can expect to receive for shit. Ok maybe I’m slightly exaggerating shit’s value on the transfer market and the Mars bar may turn out to be a Funsize one but it pays to be optimistic.
Finally, a word on next season PL runners up and the latest acquisition by Roman’s money laundering operation at Stamford Bridge, Michael Bollocks. If ever you needed proof that Jose is an avid reader of my opinions here on KopBlog then surely this is it. I’ve always said his chelski side lacked the bollocks to play good quality football and lo and behold look who he signs. The reality is Jose is still reeling from the fact that he couldn’t sign the best midfielder in the world, our own brilliant captain StevieG, and he is spending fortunes bringing in pale imitations.
Jose says he is going to play Bollocks beside Plank Lampard but where does that leave last season’s pale imitation signing, Michael Assassin? If he intends to play them all then how does he find room for his wingers and if he intends to play his wingers, do we take it that he means to leave his £25 million Assassin wasting away on the bench alongside the £23 million he wasted on the talented SWP whose career he has ruined? I’m not too bothered about what the increasingly desperate Jose does or how much money he wastes because the truth is he himself is also a pale imitation and we’ve got the real “Special One” running our team at Anfield.
All the money in the world can’t stop destiny and the Red tide is on the rise, long live The Rafalution!
