: In a surprising and unexpected result Al-Hilal handed Al-Ittihad a shocking 5-0 bashing at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium in Riyadh.
It was for the first time in the history of the Saudi Professional League that Ittihad was humiliated by Hilal.
The unexpected result sent shockwaves in the Ittihad camp as their fans never imagined this outcome between these two rivals fighting for the league title. This was sweet revenge for Hilal as they had lost 4-0 to Ittihad in December 1999.
Sultan Al-Numari missed the target narrowly in the first half when his shot went inches wide of the left post.
Christian Wilhemsson took advantage of a sloppy Ittihad defense and drew first blood in the 7th minute when he blasted the ball into the net from inside the penalty are following a fine cross from the left.
Hilal goalkeeper denied Ittihad the equalizer at the quarter when he blocked a stiff shot from Saud Kariri.

As many expected that Ittihad will come stronger and reduce the margin, Thiago Neves again had something different to say. His effort from outside the penalty box went past the left hand side of goalkeeper in the 55th minute.
Ittihad defense line began to crumble and again Thiago Neves was there to give Hilal the fourth goal and his third a couple of minutes later after he received a fine pass inside the penalty box from Yaser Al-Qahtani and placed the ball to the right of rival goalkeeper.
Christian Wilhemsson hit the final nail seven minutes before time taking advantage of poor defending.
Hilal finished the first round of the league undefeated and are on the top of the table with 29 points. Hilal club president Abdul Rahman bin Musaed said that Ittihad and Shabab still have chances for title. He said that Ittihad is a strong team but Hilal was better prepared.
Ittihad remained third in the standing with 18 points. This was their third defeat in the league.
In the other matches of the day, Al-Ahli and Al-Fateh drew in their match at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal stadium in Jeddah 1-1.
Ahli is on sixth on the table with 12 points and Al-Fateh is fifth with 13 points.
Ittifaq won an important match against Najran 3-1 in Dammam. Ittifaq escaped being at bottom of the standings and now is in the ninth position with nine points while Najran dropped to the tenth spot with seven points.
