موقع Goal : ياسر الأفضل آسيويا ... According to reports in Saudi Arabia, international forward Yasser Al-Qahtani has been officially notified by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) that he is the winner of the 2007 Player of the Year award. The award ceremony takes place in Sydney on Wednesday.
AFC rules governing the award competition stipulate that a player gains 40 points when winning the Most Valuable Player award in a given Asian Cup finals game, and 30 points during a match counting for the AFC Champions League.
However, the rules also state that the player must attend the ceremony but Al-Qahtani is unlikely to do so as he is on national team duty in the Pan-Arab games.
Riyadh newspaper Al-Eqtessidiyahh has done its sums and has proclaimed that Al-Qahtani, who finished the 2007 Asian Cup as the joint top scorer, is the winner.
“The player was told by the AFC that he has won the prize," declared the newspaper.
"He has accumulated 150 points after claiming the Most Valuable Player award in three matches during the 2007 Asian Cup finals against Korea Republic, Bahrain and Japan, in addition to the same award gained against Al-Ain of the UAE in the AFC Champions League competition." يعني بالعربي وبين قوسين ...
