All Bahrain players were eligible
Following up on a complaint submitted by the Iran Football Federation according to which Bahrain had allegedly fielded ineligible players in FIFA World Cup qualifying matches of the Asian Second Round, FIFA checked the official s pertaining to these matches of Group A and found that all Bahrain players engaged in these matches were eligible to compete.

In a fax sent today to the Iran Football Federation, FIFA General Secretary Michel Zen-Ruffinen confirmed this fact. Taking position regarding the complaint, the FIFA General Secretary pointed out that all players in question had been eligible, either because - in accordance with the disciplinary regulations and decisions by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee - their previous yellow cards from the Asian First Round qualifying matches had not been carried over to the Second Round or because the player had served his suspension.

In particular, the Bahrain players Mohamed HUSAIN MOHAMED and Khaled AL DOSERI were eligible to play the matches Bahrain-Iraq on 24 August 2001 and Bahrain - Saudi Arabia on 21 September 2001 respectively.

Moreover, the player Mohamed Ahmed SALMEEN had effectively been suspended from the match Thailand-Bahrain on 16 October 2001 and did not play in this match. In their complaint, the Iran Football Federation erroneously referred to the player Mohamed SALMAN MAKI, whose respective identity and eligibility, however, were ascertained on the base of the passport number and date of birth.

Iran lost its last second round qualifying match 1- 3 away to Bahrain and will now have to contest the Asian play-offs against United Arab Emirates. The first leg is due to take place in Iran on 25 October 2001, the return match will be played on 31 October in the United Arab Emirates. The winner of these play-offs will then take on Ireland Republic for a two-leg play-off round (on 10 and 15 November 2001 respectively) whose winner will qualify for the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan™.

زبدة الكلام اللي فوق ان ايران احتجت على بعض اللاعبين ...ظنا انهم موقفين ....ولكن الاحتجاج رفض .....
